As I posted previously, I've been messing with metadata in an effort to get the years of digital media I have lying around into some sort of organization.
I have really been getting tired of geocoding (embedding coordinates on Earth where picture was taken) by hand. I've always wanted a GPS and this seemed like the perfect excuse to finally buy it.
What I do is this: GPS is tracking a point every second. I take pictures here and there - and the time picture taken is embedded by the camera. Later, I use a merge/compare program to match up my track locations with the picture date taken times, and re-write the geocoding back into the picture.
What I didn't expect was how much fun this GPS would be to play with, even if you removed the primary driving force under which I purchased it. The thing is a blast.
I got a Garmin eTrex Legend Cx and upgraded the memory card to a 1GB microSD, just in case you were curious. I'm still exploring all the wigged out stuff you can do with it.
